Since each swim manufacturer uses slightly different measurements to determine sizing, you need to take your measurements to find out which size you'd fit for each brand. Write them down to use as reference when considering each company sizing chart. Even if you think you know your size, it's important to measure and check the chart before purchasing a suit. It gives you added security that you are getting the best fit possible.
The main measurements we use to determine size are: bust, waist, hips and torso. The first three, you are probably most familiar with. The torso measurement can get tricky, but we'll walk you through it and it is crucial for the best fit.
You need to be wearing only your underwear, bra included, to get the most accurate measurements. Use a fabric measuring tape, not one from the hardware store!
BUST:
Measure around the fullest part of your bust. If you are looking for a cup sized swimsuit, the cup size should correspond to your bra size.
WAIST:
Measure around your natural waistline. It is generally just below your last rib and a couple inches above your navel. Don't forget to keep the tape level all the way around your body.
TORSO:
Often overlooked, but is very important in getting the right fit. Measure from the top of your shoulder about 2' from the edge, then down your back, through your legs, and back up to the fullest part of your bust.
HIPS:
Measure around the fullest part of your lower body including your hips and buttocks. It is roughly 8' below the waistline. Be sure to stand with your feet together.
After recording your measurements:
Once you determine your measurements, you can figure out your size by our sizing charts on page 10 or by checking the sizing chart associated with each product on the product detail page. If the majority of your measurements are within 3/4 of one particular size, choose that size. If you are like most women and your measurements don't fall exactly in line with the size charts, keep in mind that the torso measurement is the most important followed by the bust, then hips, then waist.
